The Theatre Arts Department recognizes students with outstanding theatrical ability who have demonstrated interest in theatre arts in their high schools and communities, and who are also considering the pursuit of the Theatre Arts major at Furman University.
The department has a small number of scholarships for incoming freshmen. These awards range upward from $10,000 per year. Scholarships are not automatically renewed. All recipients are expected to take classes in the Theatre Arts department and work on departmental productions. Students who receive scholarships at the highest levels will be expected to major in Theatre Arts and participate in all departmental recruiting events. Applications are reviewed by early spring term of each year. Scholarship awards will be made by late April and are contingent upon the student's acceptance to Furman by the Admission Office.
Students who would like to be considered for the Theatre Arts Scholarship must complete the following application and have an audition/interview on either January 31st or February 21st with at least two members of the Theatre Arts faculty. The audition portion will consist of two contrasting pieces that should not exceed two minutes. Please plan to spend most of the day on campus for your audition. We will provide lunch and tickets to a performance or a rehearsal on the night of the audition for you and one family member. If you have any conflicts we will consider alternate dates on a case by case basis. Please
contact Marta Lanier at email@example.com with any conflicts.
Please list the names and contact information for two references.
If you have any questions regarding this scholarship, please contact Marta Lanier, Fine Arts Recruitment Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 864.294.3405.
